Customs officials seize gold worth over Rs 33.75 lac at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru, Mar 13: In yet another seizure, officers of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport in the early hours on Saturday March 13, intercepted a passenger and seized 737 grams (net) gold from him.

The passenger, Koppa Mammini Khalid (45) hails from Koppa in Kerala. He had disembarked the Air India flight coming from Dubai from where he tried to smuggle gold by concealing in his specially designed inner wear. Gold valued at Rs 33,75,470 lac was seized. Further investigation is under progress.

The operation was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali IRS deputy commissioner. Crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Bhomkar, Rakesh Kumar and Bikram Chakraborty who are all superintendent rank officers.

    Surprised to see that smuggling still continues. Service tax impact on gold is expected to reduce soon. International price is falling and the downward trend is likely to continue below $1.7k per ounce and will continue for sometime. This smuggling is clearly in aid of Gold traders who are after margins it appears. A proper of Gold audit with the gold commercial entities will solve this issue.

    There is not a single day, where our Customs officers, are not apprehending gold and currency smugglers in MIA !!! Intriguing to understand, as to why a section of our society, are habitually involved in defrauding our nation !!!!!

    Hats of to Manguluru customs. They should be rewarded. Where on earth these highly literate madrassa brain washed people read news paper other than Malyalee news channels and need paper. Seize their gold and release with the red carpet treatment . They are helping our economy.

    I really fail to understand the people who bring gold with them, do they not read the news of caching the gold in airport on their arrival? Without any updates, without any preparations and plans, how they just bring gold and get caught? Such news is published as and when the smugglers are caught...

    I doubt were all this smuggling gold is and and what they do it ????? from past 10 years Mangalore airport Customs officials have seize gold worth millions . i would like this wroth money to development of new airport, so that all over world flights can come .... i hope they do so .....
