Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha joins Trinamool Congress ahead of West Bengal polls

Kolkata, Mar 13: With West Bengal Assembly election round the corner, former BJP leader and Finance Minister under Prime Minister (PM) Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on Saturday March 13, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

The 83-year-old leader, who quit his the BJP in 2018, joined TMC in Kolkata in the presence of Derek O Brien, Sudip Bandopadhyay, and Subrata Mukherjee.

Addressing the media after joining TMC, Sinha said, "The country is facing an unprecedented situation today. The strength of democracy lies in the strength of the institutions of democracy. All these institutions, including the judiciary, have become weak now.”

Sinha also drew comparison between the Narendra Modi government and that of his former PM Vajpayee and said, "There is no one to stop the government's wrongdoing. The BJP during Atal ji's time believed in consensus but today's government believes in crushing and conquering. The Akalis, the BJD have left the BJP. Today, who is standing with BJP?"

He raised several issues today at the press meet, including the ongoing farmers' agitation and the border situation with China. Casting doubts on the poll body too he said, “I say it with a lot of responsibility that the Election Commission is no longer a neutral body."

    SINHA JI, You are the one Only from BJP fights for BJP and Modi governments illegzl, unethical policies. Most of the institutions of India have been taken over by RSS ideologist and Judiciary and Election commission is not functioning as it has to be !!!!???? SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY.     Mr Gibbs, if BJP had given him a position he would not have left BJP and would have sang praises about Modi, he was shown the back door by BJP because of his age factor and for your information he is an liability to party he joins, he has not won any elections on his own. I just heard a political analyst commenting only people who are not homeless are the politicians they keep on jumping from party to party.

    Right move at the right time. He is a great leader of high moral value and his coming to TMC, will only make them win the elections with huge margins/seats political parties must give up arrogance and dividing tactics, buying MLA's/,P's has become buying like vegetables at market, none has any dignity or respect for people vote/mandate Time to teach good lessons to political parties that create havoc and divide the nation!!!
