Bengaluru, Mar 14: In the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases in what is being termed as the 'second wave', it is highly unlikely that the education department would take a decision with respect to reopening of primary schools in the state.
Regular classes are being held for students from sixth to 12th standard. Vidyagama is underway for students from sixth to eighth grades in Bengaluru city, and border areas of Maharashtra and Kerala.

The department of public education had made all preparations and placed a proposal in front of the state government seeking permission to start classes from first to fifth grade. However, due to the sudden rise in the number of coronavirus cases it has become difficult for the department to go ahead with the decision.
Primary and secondary education minister is supposed to hold a meeting with the technical advisory committee and minister for health and medical education to seek permission and guidance in starting classes for students from first to fifth grade. However, the date of the meeting is still not fixed. According to a senior official of the education department, any decision in this regard would be difficult before the end of this month.
Summer holidays not declared: Minister Suresh Kumar
Meanwhile, minister for primary and secondary education, Suresh Kumar clarified that no announcement has yet been made with respect to summer holidays to schools. He also said that no decision is taken with respect to promoting students to next grade without examinations.
"For students of first to fifth grade studying in government schools, 'Kaliyona Naliyona' programme is being broadcast on AIR and Samveda programme on Doordarshan. Teachers are assessing the progress of the students with locally available resources. Private schools are conducting online classes. Alternative learning programme is in implementation throughout the state. So there is no proposal with the department on declaring summer holidays as of now," said minister Suresh Kumar.
