New Delhi, Mar 16: Recently, there were some incidents of baggage pilferage in the low cost airline SpiceJet. Locks of the baggage of passengers were allegedly broken and there was pilferage also. This reported on flight SG178 from Dubai to Delhi on March 11.

The airline announced that it is going to hold an investigation of the incident after which a video showing disappointed passengers complaining of missing items from their baggage went viral on social media.

A SpiceJet spokesperson, however, says that none of the passengers have lodged any formal complaint with the airline. But he said that the airline has taken the matter seriously and it will not allow anyone to tarnish the image of the organization by circulating fake news and videos on social media platforms. He also assured that SpiceJet is investigating the issue of March 11.

In two more incidents that occurred on SpiceJet flights, valuables went missing from the baggage of a passenger on the Dubai-Mangaluru flight, while another passenger flying to Dharbanga lost jewellery worth six lac which was kept in checked-in-baggage.

It may be recalled, earlier in February, a woman from the city allegedly lost valuable items from her baggage following her travel by SpiceJet flight from Dubai to Mangaluru. When the flight landed at the airport, she along with co-passengers were informed at immigration that luggage would be delivered to their addresses personally by the SpiceJet staff within two days, as the flight could not carry baggage over its capacity. Nazma received her baggage a day later and found a Samsung mobile phone worth Rs 1 lac, an Apple wristwatch worth Rs 25,000 and a lot of expensive chocolates were missing from her suitcase.

Giving clarification on the incident that occurred on the Dubai-Mangaluru flight, the spokesperson for SpiceJet said that the check in baggage of the said passenger was offloaded from the flight on February 21 due to payload restrictions. The offloaded baggage was delivered to the passenger on February 24 at the residential address given by the passenger.

The spokesperson said that after thorough investigations done in Dubai as well as Mangaluru about the missing items from baggage alleged by the passenger it is found that no tampering or pilferage has taken place in both Dubai as well as Mangaluru.

The spokesperson further said that the airlines strictly instructs all passengers travelling by SpiceJet to carry their valuables like camera, jewellery, cash, electronics, medicine and perishable items in the cabin baggage itself. He further clarified that the airline will not take any responsibility if valuables are missing from the check-in baggage.
