Vanamahotsava Observed at Ashraya, Home for Senior Citizens

Mumbai, Jul 17:  Vanamahotsava was celebrated at Ashraya – a home for senior citizen, recently.  The old-age home was built by BSKB Association, Gokul,  Sion.

Sagar Naik mayor of Navi Mumbai, corporate Sandeep Balakrishna Sutar,  Santosh Shetty,  Anita Santosh Shetty, Saluja Sandeep Sutar, Bhau Harish Mirchandani of Shalimar Construction,  Lion Ashok Kumbhar governor of  Lions Club and  Lion Sanjay Gupta president of Lions Club were the chief guests for the occasion.

As a part of cultural programme the students of Tilak Public School, Nerul presented dance, song and a meaningful drama on save nature.  “Tuje sab hai pata ..Meri Maa” song enacted by small cute looking children was appreciated by each and everyone with thunderous applaud. The senior citizens along with volunteers presented two beautiful songs.



Subhash Save, the resident of Ashraya gave speech on the importance of Vanamahotsava in Marathi. All the dignitaries spoke on the urgent need for planting trees to save mother earth that in turn will save us. The mayor appreciated this activity by Ashraya and prescribed “one person one plant” approach to make the city green.

Dr SS Rao, the BSKBA president narrated incidents on the love of the Ashraya inmates and the dedication of the volunteers serving the home. He also spoke about the steps taken to involve the senior citizens staying around to bring cheerfulness in their life.

All the guests were honored and presented with a plant by Dr SS Rao , APK Potty , Haridas Bhat.

After the stage event the school children engaged themselves in planting saplings.  The guests also planted the saplings in front of the Ashraya, on pits specially made for the occasion.  Later every inmates of the home were given a sapling and a pot with the mud to maintain the same in their room.

The programme was meticulously executed by the office- bearers of the Ashraya - Suman Chiplunkar, chairperson,   Chandravati Rao, secretary and Chitra Melamine, treasurer with the support of Laxmish Acharya and PCN Rao.  The programme was sponsored by Jayashree and Umesh Rao.
