Mangaluru: Attempt to sell stolen car - Four arrested

Mangaluru, Mar 20: Police personnel of Kadri station here have succeeded in arresting four persons, who were taking a stolen car for sale after changing its chassis number. The arrested people have been identified as Abdul Samad, Mohammad Basheer, Junaid and Muhammed Asgar Ali.

On Thursday, Kadri police inspector Savitra Teja, along with other personnel, was checking vehicles in front of Sandesha foundation at Nanthoor when a white Maruti Baleno car without registration number came that way from the direction of Pumpwell. When the police demanded for documents, the driver hesitated. The police grew suspicious, opened the bonnet of the car and verified. They found that the chassis number had been meddled with. During further questioning, the driver revealed that the car was from Kattikulam Kerala and that the car was being brought to Mangaluru from there for sale.

It is learnt that the accused had stolen the car and brought the same to the city with the tacit aim of altering he chassis and engine numbers, creating fake documents, and then to sell the car . Further investigation is on.
