Mangaluru: Fr Ronald Serrao’s book on 20 inspirational lay saints ‘Sorgimche Dive’ released

Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 20: A book ‘Sorgimche Dive’ by Fr Ronald Serrao, rector of St Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, was released on Friday March 20.

Bishop Emeritus Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, who released the book at St Joseph's Church, Jeppu, on the occasion of the Solemnity of St Joseph, the patron of the parish and the diocese of Mangalore, said, “After the Second Vatican Council, the Church has made the people aware that all baptized are called to holiness and the recent popes have canonized lay saints to realize this above idea. In this direction, ‘Sorgimche Dive’, the book written by Fr Ronald Serrao, is a great inspiration for our lay faithful to live a life of holiness in their proper state of life. I wish that our people draw inspiration from this book so that they live an authentic Christian life.”

Most of the saints known to people are popes, bishops, priests and religious. Though there are many saints who are lay faithful and married men and women who hail from kings to ordinary farmers, preachers have not made them popular. It is logical that lay saints inspire people than saints belonging to clergy and religious who lived a different environment. With this thought, Fr Ronald wrote the book ‘Sorgimche Dive’, on 20 lay saints who can inspire lay people to live a genuine Christian life and grow in holiness.

The 72-page ‘Sorgimche Dive’ is published by Mangala Jyothi. It is available at Mangala Jyothi for Rs 60.

The feast of St Joseph, patron of Jeppu parish, was held on Friday in great splendour. Bishop Emeritus Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the concelebrated Mass and preached an inspiration homily. The Mass was followed by a Konkani religious drama ‘Nikodem’, by Jeppu parishioners. Fr Ronald Serrao wrote the script and songs. Clita Noronha directed the drama.

The 75 minute-drama depicted the journey of Jewish teacher, Nichodemus, in acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah. Over a thousand people including clergy, religious, seminarians and people witnessed the drama spell bound till the end with great admiration.
