Mumbai, Jul 19: Konkani Talent Contest – 2010 by metro-based Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Maharastra was held at Our Lady of Lourdes church, Orlem, Malad (West), here on Sunday July 18.
Renowned Mangalorean financial expert and Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Maharastra vice-president John D’Silva inaugurated the contest.
Speaking on the occasion, John D’Silva said that Konkani is one among the ancient Indian languages, and every native Konkan has the responsibility to promote it. Konkani talent contests that are held annually will form a strong foundation to foster Konkani traditions and culture in every Konkani family, he added.
Fr Richard D’Almeida, assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart church, Andheri (East), here conducted the prayer service and elaborated on the importance of Konkani.
Maharastra Konkan Association president Walter D’Souza Jerimeri, Bhasha Mandal treasurer Stany D’Costa were present on the dais.
Judy Pereira, Gerry Bondel, Tina Menezes Shirva were the jurors of the contest.
Well-known musician Victor Concesso, Cypry Sampige, John G Mendonca, Benedicta Rebello, Julie D’Almeida, Tony D’Almeida and others were also present.
More than 60 children participated in the contest.
Bhasha Mandal honorary secretary Lawrence D’Souza Kamani welcomed the gathering. Leo Fernandes compered the programme.
