Mysuru, Mar 23: A motorbike rider who was trying to escape from the traffic police who were checking the vehicles, was crushed under a tipper. The incident happened near RMP Circle in the city on Monday March 22 evening.
The man who lost his life was Devaraju (43) from Kallenahalli, Hampapura in H D Kote taluk in the district.
Angered by the incident, the people at the spot attacked three policemen including an assistant sub-inspector of police found on the spot apart from damaging the police patrol vehicle. The police had to resort to light lathi-charge to disperse the angry crowd.
Devaraju, who was moving in his motorbike, saw from a distance that police were checking vehicles near RMP Circle. Devaraju tried to avoid the checking and took a U turn at which he lost control over his vehicle and fell down, it is said. A tipper which came from behind crushed him instantly. The police said that they were not at fault and the spot where the accident happened was 200 metres away from where the vehicle checking was being conducted. Two of the policemen have been hospitalised.
