Kasargod, Jul 27: Several houses located along the sea shore at Manimunda beach in Uppala, near here, were damaged on Sunday July 25 due to erosion caused by a tumultuous sea. Incessant rains and heavy gales have been lashing the region since the past few days.
More than 30 palm trees were uprooted and plantations damaged in the heavy rains. Many houses are in a precarious condition due to surging high tides.
Zilla Panchayat (ZP) president Abdul Razak, Manimunda gram panchayat president Farida and former vice-president Moosa visited the distressed families.
ZP president Abdul Razak offered assurances of trying to get government funds for rehabilitating the distressed families.
Muslim Relief Committee also offered assistance to shift the families and provided food and shelter.
