'Tourism used as excuse to hide Covid inefficiency' - Porvorim MLA

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Apr 7: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has launched a scathing attack on the Goa government for not implementing stricter Covid-19 norms. "The state government is trying to hide its inefficiency in handling Covid-19 cases by claiming that stricter norms will affect tourism," he said in a report by TOI.

"Section 144 does not differentiate between locals and tourists. Health minister Vishwajit Rane has repeatedly recommended stronger curbs at the border but the calls have been ignored. Ports minister Michael Lobo went to the extent of saying that stronger Covid-19 restrictions will hurt the tourism industry," he added.

The lack of stringent guidelines to curb Covid just so that tourism is not hampered shows the Goa government’s inefficiency in handling it from day one, said Khaunte.
