Beltangady, Jul 29: A local goon was slain by a group of youth who arrived in a Maruti Omni near Hotel Ganesh here on Wednesday July 28 at 5.00 pm.
The deceased is 45-year-old Vishwanath Moolya alias ‘Whistle’ Vishwa, a native of Guruvayanakere, and was residing in a rented house at Kalyani. Vishwa was accused of murdering Dhanya Kumar, president, Guruvayanakere gram panchayat, businessman and trustee of Aramalebetta Kodamanittaya Temple.
Meanwhile, the town police managed to nab three persons within a half hour after the murder.
Vishwa arrived at Hotel Ganesh on Wednesday evening as usual and shared some snacks with his friend Stany. Two persons, with their faces hidden by helmets, arrived at the hotel and approached the table where Vishwa was sitting.
One of the assailants drew a country pistol to threaten the people in the hotel while another hit Vishwa behind his head with a knife. When hotel owner Divakar tried to intervene, they threatened him and others with lethal weapons.
Vishwa’s friend Stany threw chairs at the assailants and when they retreated in a getaway Maruti Omni, he hurled stones that damaged the vehicle’s windscreen.
It is believed there were more accomplices in the vehicle. The Omni sped towards Uppinangady after the heinous crime. Despite the locals trying to block the Omni at Adoor – Peral, the assailants did not stop.
Meanwhile, the police relayed information about the vehicle to neighbouring police stations. The police laid road blockades and succeeded in stopping the Omni at Uppinangady Math and managed to arrest three people.
The arrested have been identified as Sunish, a native of Guruvayanakere, Hitesh and Prakash, both residents of Padangady.
The policemen led by Puttur circle inspector Manjayyawere involved in this operation.
