Kundapur: Flyover work limping again, new deadline expected

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Apr 13: The flyover work on the national highway 66 here that has been moving at a painstakingly slow pace for a decade, is almost certain to again fail another deadline now. On the basis of the assurance that the work would be completed within a few days at the general session of the municipality, a new deadline, of April 15  to 20, was given. Now, the people are waiting for the announcement of another deadline for the umpteenth time.

There is no doubt that the work is nearing completion. Asphalting had not been attended to near Vinayaka Theatre but now, one side of the road has been asphalted, and fixing of street lights is in progress. Work has not been taken up on the other side. As per information, materials worth Rs 50 lac is in short supply. It is said that the suppliers have suspended supplies. The contracting firm is not giving a clear response.

As the flyover work has not been completed, the service road is being used as a highway. Now, the service road, which is already narrow, has been dug for drains. Half-hearted work has been executed, and then left in that condition for months together. As concrete walls for the drains have not been provided, people and two-wheeler riders are facing danger, particularly at night. A huge pit has also been dug at Divya Darshini hotel. Works are pending by saying that water pipelines and cable lines of the municipality are pending. Navayuga had said in the past that service road works would be taken up only after the flyover is completed. Now, none of the work is complete. If the rainy season begins, people have to wait for four more months for the works to begin again.

The works which gained momentum in March are now going at a snail's pace. No one seems to be having an idea where the work is heading and when it will be completed.
