Twin brothers from Kundapur join Indian army together

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Apr 13: Last year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, classes were not being conducted. Therefore, twin brothers, Chetan Acharya and Chandan Acharya, who had completed the second year BCom degree course, opted to serve the nation by wearing army fatigues. Now they are undergoing training at MEG, Bengaluru.

The brothers were born five to six minutes apart. They match each other in height and weight and score over 90 per cent marks in examinations. Both are accomplished volleyball players. They are the volleyball players of Mangalore University. Both want to give company to one another. Therefore, they joined the Indian Army on a single day as soldiers in the Madras Engineering Group (MEG).

The twins are the children of Ramesh Acharya and Shyamala couple from Katkere near Koteshwar. Chetan Acharya is an upcoming volleyball player of Karnataka with excellent performance in state and national level tournaments. The twins got good support in their sports ambitions from the physical education director of Sharada College, Basrur. Both got selected to the army under the sports quota.

The brothers are among the 17 players chosen from different parts of the country to get trained at Bengaluru. Shortly, there will be competition between the teams representing the Airforce, Navy and the Army. Players who play will get selected for the services team.

Both Chetan and Chandan say that they used to visit Lord Siddhivinayak temple at Anegudde every day and because of their involvement with sports, they have been chosen to serve the nation and also excel in sports. They say they are working hard, as they are driven by the desire to represent the services team.
