Udupi: Thought of change of constitution dangerous for democracy - Vinay Kumar Sorake

Udupi, Apr 14: "It is really dangerous that the thought of a change of constitution, which was a gift of Dr Ambedkar, who dedicated his life through a relentless fight in order to provide justice to the people who were trampled in the society in the name of casteism," said former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Vinay Kumar Sorake was speaking after lighting the lamp on the occasion of the 130th birthday celebration of Dr Ambedkar at the Congress Bhavan at Brahmagiri of the city organized jointly by the Udupi district Congress committee and Udupi Block Congress Scheduled Caste unit.

Sorake further said, "The thought of a change of constitution will endanger democracy. Today backward communities and Dalits are reaping benefits because of the constitution written by Dr Ambedkar."

Giving the introductory speech on the occasion, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor said, "Dr Ambedkar is the person who got Doctorates in most subjects in the world and tried to eradicate untouchability from the society."

KPCC coordinator Naveenchandra Shetty spoke on the occasion. Roshini Oliver of RGPRS, Prakhyat Shetty, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Shabbir Ahmed and Harish Kini of district Congress, Abdul Aziz Hejamady and Keerthi Shetty of Youth Congress, Saurabh Ballal, president NSUI, Keshav M Kotian, Udyavar Nagesh Kumar, Harish Shetty Pangala, Krishnamoorthy Acharya, Louis Lobo, Dinesh Kotian, Sadashiv Kattagudde, Ganesh Nergi, president, Block SC unit, Mary D'Souza, Jayashree Shet, Shanti Pereira, Sathish Manchi and Yuvaraj Puttur were present.

The programme was compered by Janardhan Bhandarkar, chief secretary of Udupi block Congress. Block Congress president Amin Padukere rendered the vote of thanks.
