Mangaluru, Apr 15: A day of festivity and thanksgiving for the gift endowed by God to the clergy and the faithful of Neermarga, parents, faculty and students of Rajeshwar High School and St Joseph English Medium School through the generous instrumentality of Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross was celebrated on April 11 at St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga.
The golden celebrations initiated with a thanksgiving mass. A bevy of 50 parishioners young and old led the entrance procession with 50 roses in their hands followed by Sisters of the Congregation and Msgr Lawrence Maxim Noronha, vicar-general of the diocese of Mangaluru, Fr Anil D'Mello, parish priest, Fr Cornelius, Fr Dilraj, Fr Jeevan, Fr Rayan and Fr Joyson Vas.
Sister Sujatha unfolded the foundation, motto and charism of the congregation elegantly and also underlined the ways they engage themselves in the prophetic mission of Jesus Christ through health, education and pastoral services to discerning the needs of God’s people with the aid of powerful weapons such as faith, prayer and compassion. Msgr Lawrence Maxim Noronha, in his very rich and inspiring homily, annotated about the merciful love of God through concrete examples. He further said, “Mercy of Jesus is well connected to the life of Holy Cross sisters, as they are named as sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross. Their presence is a powerhouse for the entire people of the parish and the world at large. Their works are selfless and hidden, but their existence is felt because they unite the parish faithful in their prayers”.
After the Apostles Creed, Sisters of the Convent professed their vows.
After the mass, a short programme was systematized. Sr Mary John, celebrating her diamond jubilee was felicitated for her prodigious services to the congregation and society at large; Fr Anil D'Mello acknowledged the unflagging services of every Sister of Holy Cross Convent to the parish with a memento.
The presence of parishioners in large number and the Holy Cross Sisters from different parts of Karnataka along with Sr Flory D’Souza South Province the provincial superior made the day remarkable. Sister Ruphina, superior of Holy Cross Convent efficiently proposed the vote of thanks.
