Katy Perry Gifts $200,000 Space Trip to Russell Brand on Birthday

London, Aug 2 (IANS): Singer Katy Perry has bought a $200,000 trip to space for fiance comedian Russell Brand on his 35th birthday.

Brand will have to undergo three days of intense training before he can go on his Virgin Galactic mission, which will see him travel 365,000 feet into the atmosphere, reports dailymail.co.uk.

"It is true. We are very excited to have him onboard," said Virgin Galactic representative Louella Faria.

"There will be 17-inch diameter windows to look out onto. Passengers will be able to view Earth around 800 miles in any direction from space," Faria added.

After travelling into the atmosphere at a rate which is three times the speed of sound, Brand will be given the opportunity to make the most of the lack of gravity and float weightlessly for five minutes before heading back to earth.

The spaceship is currently still in the testing stages, but things are boding well for the vehicle following a successful inaugural test flight earlier this year.

As well as Brand, Virgin boss Richard Branson will be going on one of the first flights into space - but he won't be alone.

He said recently: "My father wants to come. He's 93 and keeps telling me to hurry up. I am only going into space when it is safe for myself, my family and everyone else. "
