Udupi, Apr 17: A meeting of experts was held in the office auditorium of deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha on Friday, April 16, with regards to the actions that needs to be taken to control the second wave of Covid in the district.
The expert committee opined, "Second wave of coronavirus is rampant in the state. It is being spread in the district also. In order to control the spread of the virus, testing, detection and treatment should be taken up in more numbers. Patients suffering from heart, cancer and kidney disease are more susceptible to death by Covid. Such patients need to be tested every 15 days to avoid death. Infection control training needs to be imparted to people who work in the health sector."
The experts committee also opined that the Remdesivir injection, which is used in control of corona infection needs to be used with care. Covid vaccination, face masks, PPE kits and Oxygen cylinders need to be high in stock.
Speaking in the meeting, DC Jagadeesha said, "PM Modi has appreciated our efforts in controlling the Covid in MIT by making it a containment zone. Similar measures have to be taken. All private hospitals of the district should reserve beds for Covid patients as per the instructions given by the government. All private institutions, malls, educational institutions and hotels should cooperate with the administration to conduct Covid tests. Otherwise, criminal cases will be filed against them according to epidemic act.
"We have organized a bed management system to prevent shortages of beds in the district. All private hospitals have to provide the details of their beds every day. Ambulance management systems are put in place to prevent shortage."
Zilla panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat, additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, AC Raju, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district Covid Nodal officer Dr Prashanth Bhat, doctors in the district experts committee and officials of various departments were present.
