CBI Challenges Shah Remand Rejection in High Court

Ahmedabad, Aug 5 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday challenged in the Gujarat High Court the denial of remand of former minister of state for home Amit Shah, arrested in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake shootout case.

The matter will come up before Justice Akil Qureshi later in the day. Veteran lawyer K.T.S. Tulsi will represent the CBI.

The Special CBI court Wednesday rejected the CBI plea to take Shah on remand for further questioning in connection with the case.

The court had upheld defence lawyer Ram Jethmalani's argument that the CBI had failed to fully utilise the three days' time to question Shah. Moreover, once the chargesheet has

been filed, it is not proper in law to now seek remand of the accused.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been accused of killing Sohrabuddin in a staged shootout Nov 26, 2005 near Ahmedabad on grounds that he was a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative. His wife Kauser-Bi has also been missing since then.
