London, Aug 6 (IANS): Pop star Katy Perry was won over by Russell Brand's charm when the comedian wrote a touching message in a copy of his book signed specially for her.
The couple had first met at the MTV Video Music Awards last year where they were both presenters and immediately hit it off, reports dailystar.co.uk.
The "I Kissed A Girl" hit maker declined Brand's offer for a ride home after the New York ceremony and instead asked for a personalised edition of his memoir "My Booky Wook" after noticing it in the back of his car.
And it was Brand's romantic dedication that had Perry hooked.
"Russell had a copy of his book in the car and I was intrigued. I asked him to sign it, and when I got home I read what he wrote 'You are a mermaid, and I am drowning'," said Perry.
The singer was taken in by the funnyman's note and invited him to join her on vacation in Phuket, Thailand.
The couple became engaged in December 2009 and is planning to wed later this year.
