Mangaluru: Yakshagana performances may be suspended ahead of Pattanaje

Mangaluru, Apr 29: This year again, the Yakshagana season might become a casualty to the COVID19 lockdown.

Last year, lockdown was announced from March 22. Yakshagana season was unveiled with lot of tough conditions with delay. This time, there are chances of the Yakshagana season getting truncated much ahead of Pattanaje, on which curtains come down on the season as per customs.

The current lockdown will be in force till May 11. There is uncertainty after that. Pattanaje is on May 24. On that day, the artistes customarily stop performing. As such, for the second successive year, Yakshagana season has lost more than a month of shows because of COVID19.

Dharmasthala Mela has already cancelled all its shows this season. Oher Melas are also likely to follow suit. Kishan Hegde, who is the manager for five Melas, said that after the night curfew, the artistes were given casual leave. He said that the artistes expect that Yakshagana performances will be allowed. He said that April and May are the busiest months during which there is high demand for the Yakshagana performances in fulfilment of religious vows (Harake). He said that because of last year's lockdown, each of the Melas could not perform 25 to 30 Harake shows and hence these performances are pending.

    Considering the amount of Covid cases & Deaths, all these melas/performances should be cancelled 2021. We are already paying with precious lives for the gathering which happened in March & April. We can't afford to go through this again & again. All over the country our hospitals, doctors and nurses are struggling to support all Covid or other patients. People are crying for Oxygen, soon we will cry for doctors & nurses.

    Poor citizens of India dying here with Covid-19 without food, medicine, vaccine & mainly without Oxigen. Responsible Central Govt. (PM and HM) was arranging elections in many states, which could have been avoided (this is not at all priority in India now) for a year by giving special powers to Chief secretaries, department secretaries, state high-court judges to run the states. Collecting donations for Ram Mandir is one of the biggest curses to flourish the Covid-19 2nd wave. First of all, we need to build the country first. If citizens are healthy & alive, then only they can go to pray once a week to the temple-masjid-church for thanksgiving for the daily food. At the end with a strong note that.....India is only one country in the world now in a Health Emergency....as no proper hospitals to deal with Covid-19, no proper vaccination, no Oxigen, and of course with any planning, lock-down, and curfew. Thus India's entire health system is totally collapsed.

    people are dying like worms and here these people are bothered about Yakshagana just keep aside everything now or else dont make lockdown and allow everything

    Without doctors , ambulances, groceries shops, transport etc difficult to survive but without Yakshganas one month or more we can survive .
