Mangaluru: Wife follows husband in death couple of hours apart

Mangaluru, Apr 29: In a rare incident that occurred at Masthikatte of Ullal on the outskirts of the city on the late night of Wednesday April 28, a woman died within two hours of her husband's death.

Congress leader Nazeer Ahmed (62) and his wife Jameela (54) are the couple who were united in marriage as well as in death.

Nazeer Ahmed, who was suffering from pneumonia, had severe blood pressure on the night of Wednesday. Though he was taken to a private hospital in Thokottu, he died on the way at around 12.30 am. Mortal remains of Nazeer were brought back to his residence. Jameela, Nazeer's wife was depressed due to this death and she died at 2.30 am due to cardiac arrest.

Nazeer Ahmed was chief secretary of Muslim League Ullal zone. Later he had contested twice for city panchayat on Congress ticket. He also worked as joint secretary of Ullal Block Congress. Nazeer served as president of the supervisory committee of Urdu school at Melangadi for 15 years. He was a contractor for drinking water of Ullal city municipality.

The burial of the couple was held on Thursday April 29 at Mayyadgar of Ullal Darga campus.
