Rahul Asks Congress to Continue Anti-BJP Stir
Bangalore, Aug 14 (PTI): Endorsing the oust-BJP campaign of his party's Karnataka unit, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday asked partymen to ensure defeat of communal forces through democratic methods in the state.
He praised the state unit leaders for their 320-km 'Bellary Chalo' padayatra against illegal mining and "failures" of the BJP government and their anti-BJP stir.
"You have done a good job", he said during his brief interaction with leaders at the Karnataka PCC office.
Rahul, who arrived here from Gulbarga for his interactive session with the youth, spent about 20 minutes with top state party leaders and asked them to continue their agitation against the saffron party government in a "democratic and Gandhian way", KPCC President R V Deshpande told reporters.
The Congress General Secretary, who has been criss- crossing the country to motivate youths to join politics for ensuring development, pledged his support to the stir launched against the BJP government in the state.
Deshpande said Rahul was briefed about the "rampant corruption" in the state and "betrayal" of promises by the BJP government including its "failure" to construct houses for flood-affected victims.
He was also informed about the "atrocities" committed on women in the state, attacks on churches and details of the padayatra which "converted itself into a peoples' movement."
Rahul also answered some questions posed by partymen at the interaction.
Opposition leader in the state Assembly Siddaramaiah, Working President D K Shivakumar and Youth Congress leader Krishna Byregowda, and former Union Minister and actor Ambareesh were present in the session.
