Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, May 17: The flyover that was recently opened for traffic here witnessed a major accident on Sunday May 16. After an Innova car tumbled, a woman lost her life while eight people including the driver suffered injuries.

The deceased was Vasanthi (35) from Hattikudru. The injured were Hattikudru residents, Ratnakar Poojary (54), Sharada (45), Prema (28), Pushpa (29), Akshata (24), Raksha (15), Ravi Poojary (59) and car driver, Sumanth Poojary (31). Sumanth stands admitted into a hospital at Manipal while the remaining are admitted into a private hospital in the town.

Ratnakar Poojary's daughter's marriage was performed at Sastan on May 13. On Sunday, the bride was being escorted to her parental home as per custom, when the car which approached the flyover at high speed hit the protective wall of the flyover in front of KSRTC bus stand and tumbled down. For about 35 metres, the car slid forward after the accident. The locals and other vehicle drivers immediately lifted the car and helped in admitting injured persons into hospitals.

A case was registered at the traffic police station here. This happens to be the very first accident to have happened on the flyover here after it was opened for the public.

Well, This is ain't the first accident on that flyover, first accident is recorded in 4th day of its opening where a qualis car hit a 10 years old girl crossing the road. 2nd accident happened on May 14 night at 9:30pm where an Etios car had crashed to the entrance board of that flyover. Third accident had happend at other end where a swift car was turned upside down. And Fourth accident is this Innova which was over speeding and driver lost control, and and it had hit divider(that side wall) and rolled 4 times and then stopped and smoke was coming through vehicle. The 1st and 4th accident I have seen live .... So this is the 4th accident. Make a correction. Thank you

Paul, Mangalore, I have no more words to express on your sensible comments. If I am not mistaken I have hardly seen any signs of speed limits or work-progress or any diversion.

Condolences to the family of the deceased..... May the injured recover soon..... But this throws a pertinent question as to whether the post wedding rituals are that essential in this lock-down ?..... Marriage day unarguably is the most important day in the life of Bride and the Groom and understanding this reality, Government has allowed function with a maximum of 50 persons..... But then is post wedding rituals unavoidable ?..... We spare no time in criticising the Government for their failures during Covid..... But what support are we lending to the Government by conducting this post marriage rituals ?..... Who gave the approval for travel ? What basis they sought the approval ?..... If this is to be justified, then why don't the Government allow honeymoon too.....

Our roads and traffic require different standard for 'high' speed. You can lose control due to uneven road surface alone even pot hole is not required.

The shape of sidewalls I have seen in most flyovers is designed to send vehicles in the air rather than prevent them from flying over them. Most probably the name flyover is kept for this reason itself. Speed of vehicles too is contributing factor causing accidents most ofthe times.

Roads are express highways but the mentality of the drivers are not develop, drivers should keep in mind that they should drive till control the speed of their vehicle not high speed and high speed is beyond the control.

Innova is normally a 7 seater then how 8 people? This is the danger of carrying more passengers than the permitted limit. In india also compulsory seatbelt for all should be implemented . Condolences to the family of the deceased

May her soul rest in peace and all the injured recover fast. Due to lockdown, there is less traffic on the roads and some drivers are driving too fast and reckless. Drive Safe
