Dubai: Praveen Shetty's Fortune Group organises 7th annual blood donation camp

Media Release

Dubai, May 23: For the seventh year in succession, Fortune Group of Hotels have successfully organized a blood donation camp in Dubai.

This drive is an annual event hosted by the members of the Fortune Family to commemorate the wedding anniversary of Sarojini and Narayan Shetty, the proud parents of Praveen Shetty, chairman of Fortune Group of Hotels.

The aim of the camp is to spread awareness amongst the community on the importance of blood donation and how a drop of blood donated can be instrumental in saving a life.

With the ongoing pandemic, the blood banks all around the world have a constant and ongoing need for blood and platelet donations.

Praveen Shetty, the chairman of Fortune Hotels who led the camp, by donating blood himself, said on the occasion: “At Fortune Hotels, we understand donating blood is essential to community health and the need for blood is constant." He added stating, "Your blood is replaceable. Life is not.” He also thanked the efforts of all involved in organizing the event, all blood donors and the team of doctors, nurses and staff from Latifa Hospital - Blood Donation Center, Dubai, UAE and key members of Fortune organising committee – Sandesh and Rakesh Shetty.

The organizers under medical supervision made sure to space the beds as per guidelines, followed social distancing practices between blood donors and also staggered donor appointment further apart to reduce the number of people at a drive at any one time.

Alok Narula, general manager of Fortune Hotels when asked about safety protocol said, “At our camp, we are following all safety protocols related to Covid-19 and have also increased our vigilance concerning some of these safety protocols especially enhanced disinfecting of touch pints, surfaces and equipment. We provided hand sanitisers for use before entering and throughout the donation appointment besides of course following social distancing practices between donors including donor beds, as well as waiting and refreshment areas.”

The drive was supported by generous participation from the members and family of KNRI Forum (Karnataka Non-Residents Indians Forum) well-wishers and friends of Praveen Shetty. Some notable people who donated blood were – Hidayath Addoor, convener, International Kannadigas Federation (IKF), Yash Karkera, Imran, Ranjith Anchan, Guruprasad, besides more than 65 staff members of Fortune Group of Hotels.

Fortune Group of Hotels also recognized the efforts of Bala Krishna who has been instrumental in organizing blood donation camps for the people of Karnataka, not only today but all across UAE in the past as well.
