Mangaluru: Excise dept officials, railway police seize over 138 litres of liquor from train

Mangaluru, May 28: In a joint operation officials of Excise department and railway police confiscated liquor that was being transported illegally on a train at Mangaluru Junction railway station on Friday May 28.

As much as 138.750 litres of liquor was seized from the Dadar-Tirunalveli express train. 

Surprisingly, the accused went missing.

A case under Excise Act was registered.

The operation was led by Shailaja Kote, joint commissioner of Excise and Ajay Kumar, inspector southern railway Mangaluru.

    A little earlier a bus with 250 kg ganja was seized. The bus transporting it was also seized. I cant understand why the train cant be seized? .planes and ships are seized.....maybe the train is stuck to the track.....and it has to be seized with the tracks.....one reason I found was these transport systems are privately owned

    Bus was hired for the very same purpose, i.e. a tourist bus hired to transport ganja whereas train was not hired for transporting liquor. It was a regular running train.

    With due respect to the people of Gujarat, Gujarat model is not to be emulated as it has been proved to be a marketing gimmick and laid bare in times of real test. we need real time and natural leaders and not fake persons. we need people friendly policies caring for the people to care for people and families. policies and policing is need of the day to keep the gullible people safe from fake liquor and fake people who promote and sell fake products. we have seen time and again that even after this state has been through a lot in hands of different types of so called leaders of people who buy the people and are for from people doing any good but for themselves Karnataka remains a rich state in terms of Industry ( metals and natural resources) , personnel ( educated and peace loving people), tourism ( beaches, temple & religious places, naturally touristic locations), rich culture. Karnataka is a Rich state and people are rich at heart and tolerate the treatment the politico dishes out every alternative term when they forget and elect the incumbent government for reasons that do not pay off. It is time we the people put an end to to fake liquor fake brands, fake politicians ( supposed to be leaders who do not lead and hide behind religious rhetoric creating commotion that keeps unassuming people busy fighting each other forgetting the real issues like education, employment, healthcare, infrastructure, justice, religious harmony, care for nature and development, progress and value for human life. ) we have resources in this state that are plundered by successive politicians and so called leaders in power at all spheres. Right now Covid and saving Human life is of utmost importance using all the resources we can gather state and centre working together. We need to identify and do away with Fake people, fake brands, fake liquor that can kill poor people who just want a kick end of a hard working day at any cost. Be wary of FAKES.

    Please ban liquor in state like Gujarat so many families will be happy. Also cigerand gutka Let us Role Model to other states as well. Jai tulunadu jai karnataka....

    Jossey, How did you find it as fake ? By the labels, you can make out ? No doubt, I know and also many people told me 50% of alcohol sold in Goa is fake. I heard the genuine stuff is sold only to regular customers and if one wants to purchase genuine one, one has to accompany a known customer to the shopkeeper. BTW, now you are living in Nallasopara and why changed earlier location ?

    actually they might have seized three times of what is mentioned...Rest by the time the haul is reported must have got distributed among the most committed, loyal and non-corrupt excise officers..ha ha ha

    Well done Madam Shailaja. Now a days less people travelling by train. Easy to transport whatever need...by bribing officials. Everybody wants to mint money..no source of income.
