May 30: DK records 727 new corona cases, Udupi 652; nine deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 30: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday May 30 reported 727 new coronavirus cases and five deaths, while Udupi reported 652 fresh cases and four deaths.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,48,196 samples have been tested so far, out of which 7,72,648 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 75,548, out of which 9,329 are currently active.

As many as 738 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 65,313.

The district recorded five deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 906, out of which two are non-Covid deaths.

With cases steadily increasing, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 70,73,917 as fine in 59,940 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 5,89,590 samples have been tested so far.

As many as 652 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 58,208, out of which 5,342 are currently active.

A total of 1,081 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 52,537.

Out of 652 new patients, 630 are in home isolation while 22 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 652, as many as 510 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi taluk reported 355 of the 652 cases, Kundapur recorded 165, Karkala 130, and two from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 329 lives in the district so far, including four on Sunday. Among those who died on Sunday are a man from Udupi and two women and a man from Kundapur.

Till now, 2,38,980 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 79,305 have received the second dose.

A total of 14 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, including one on Sunday. Out of these, 10 are currently active.
