Church vicar arrested for violating lockdown restrictions in Kerala

Ernakulam, May 31: Fr George Palamattam was arrested for violating lockdown rules by conducting Holy Communion in the church at Poovathussery on Monday, May 31. The priest, who is also the church vicar, serves at St Joseph's church in Chengamanad, in Ernakulam district in Kerala.

Altogether, the police said to have booked 25 people over the incident. The Holy Communion was held around 8 am on Monday. A total of 25 people including children, parents, church vicar and assistant vicar took part in the ceremony.

The police rushed to the church after receiving a complaint and initiated action for violating lockdown restrictions. A case was also registered as per the Epidemic Act. Fr George Palamattam was later released on bail.

The police has assured that all the accused will be arrested. Sources said that local self-government institutions also restricted the church from conducting the ceremony but the ceremony was held under the leadership of the church vicar.

The church comes under Irinjalakuda diocese.

    Being a Christian, i condemn the gathering of people in the church. Religious sentiments shouldn't overpower common sense. Law enforcement agencies should take strict action if this violation was deliberate.

    Why communist chinese viruses in the first place? For God everyone is living eternally either temporary on earth or heaven, purgatory or hell.     geoffrey, Matters! Worship places specially Churches are mini kingdom of heaven on earth. It also the body of Christ, Jesus is the head! Where one finds Inner Peace...That's why satan attacks most... Bible says in St Matthew 18:3 And he (Jesus) said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ( That means no reasoning at all! or child like trust in God!)

    Yes they disobeyed the law of present pandemic which was introduced by colonial power British. To harass we need them, but when pandemic itself is based on fake tests and false narrative of asymptomatic spread the law is illegal! I applaud US Supreme Court which struck down New York city law which prohibited church worship and celebrations of feasts during Christmas, the court ruled state has no right to interfere in the religious matters even during pandemic. It is against the constitution which had guaranteed the right to practice and worship which either state or federal government cannot amend but have to follow. It is the right of the church and the people to decide what is good for them. India needs lot of years before such a ruling we can have from our own courts. The leftists are against God and religion, this is the golden opportunity for them to trample human rights in the guise of fake pandemic. Globalists are happy to see these incidents as it is easier for them to start a New Reset as God, religion, family are their major obstacles in implementing the same.

    I this since this happened during a lawfully enforced lockdown, the vicar got arrested. Kumbh Mela as disastrous as it was as a super spreader did not happen when a lockdown was in effect. It was just social rules that got violated

    We can expect these kind of actions by CPM government in Irinjalakuda assembly constituency. Though CPM candidate Bindu won the seat, the huge support of Christians to BJP made its voteshare swell to 22% in Irinjalakuda constituency, raising the wrath of the Chief minister on this community!!!
