Mangaluru, Jun 2: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, stated that as part of the state government's initiatives to handle waste in a scientific manner, Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF) will be set up in the form of pilot projects in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Ramanagara and Ballari districts. He revealed that sanction for these units has already been given and urged the departments concerned to see that the said unit becomes functional in the district at the earliest.
He was speaking after presiding over a consultative meeting on the implementation of MRF unit under Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat's Swachh Bharat Mission. The meeting was held on Tuesday January 1 at the zilla panchayat hall.

He urged the concerned to ensure that wet and dry wastes are segregated in rural areas at the time of collecting them so that wet waste can be scientifically utilised to produce manure and dry waste can be recycled. This will also benefit the gram panchayats concerned, he added.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that MRF unit has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore at Ulipady within Ganjimath gram panchayat limits. He urged the people's representatives to convince the people that this unit will not in any way harm the environment and health of the people.
Deputy commissioner of the district, Dr Rajendra K V, and zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr Kumar, gave details. MLA Dr Bharath Shetty, Ekagamyananda Swamiji of Ramakrishna Mission etc were present.
