Bengaluru, Jun 4: Education minister Suresh Kumar said that the SSLC examination for the academic year 2021 will be held in the state in the third week of July, which will be restricted to two days and that the dates will be announced later. He mentioned that this year, the SSLC Examination will be held and the question paper will contain only multiple-choice questions.

Answer papers will have optical mark readers, he said pointing out that tests for each subject will be for a maximum of 40 marks.

OMR-based examination

Suresh Kumar said there will be only one question paper containing all the three core subjects, and a total of 120 marks will be given.

“This will have Maths, Science and Social Science divided into three parts. The examination would be held for a three-hour duration between 10.30 am and 1.30 on a designated day.

A three-day gap between each examination would be provided.

Similarly, he said for the language examinations 3 subjects of I, II and III languages will be parts of a question paper that totals to 120 marks. Each subject will be for 40 marks.

The Examination pattern will be similar to all kinds of students, he said.

“We are doubling the examination centres this time. The number of examination centres of 3000 last year will be doubled to 6000 this year and only 100 students will be in each centre. Just 12 students per room would be accommodated and only one student per desk. At least a six feet distance will be maintained between each student,’’ he said.

He further said, “We will allow centre changes for the hostel/migrant students in the most liberal manner. We will adhere to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and constant guidance from the health department in conducting these exams.’’

“We will make it mandatory for all teachers involved in examination work to compulsorily get vaccinated for Covid pandemic,’’ he said.

“Everyone will be provided N 95 masks,’’ the minister said.

No Supplementary Exams this year

Suresh Kumar made it clear that there will not be supplementary exams this year.

“We will announce the dates of examination 20 days before the exams,’’ he assured.

He also said grades will be awarded as A, B and C based on the marks.

“We will publish the model question paper on our website shortly,’’ he said allaying any doubts about the modalities.

One more foolish decision by the Education Minister! CBSE and ICSE systems have done away with examinations and the students are already admitted to Grade 11. (PUC). Soon they will begin classes online. You are ensuring that the teachers are vaccinated before the examination. What about the students? Is it fair to gamble with their lives? Wonder how many parents will risk their children's lives for the sake of this examination and what will be the impact of their decision.

I agree with the education minister as it will benefit students who want to get high marks and all pass won't help it nor will their certificates have any value in the near future but they can change the subject pattern to two languages and one difficult core subject and two difficult core subjects and one Language ex: English, Hindi and math and social, science and Kannada it will not only be easier for the students but also not very stessing and thoughtful

Let the exam be conducted online. The students should be given fixed time. They must write paper and send by scan or lby what's up or any convenient method. Open book exam be allowed but with in the time limit

I just fail to understand why Suresh Kumar is doing this? What will he achieve? How will it benefit the student or the educational institution or the board? It is just a mockery of our education system. We request the Minister not to disturb the students by such tughlaq type instructions. Simply skip the exam this time and promote all to the next class.
