Bengaluru, Jun 4: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa said the state government has taken all possible steps to control the spread of the Covid pandemic and made all arrangement to supply medicines, oxygen and even vaccines.
Addressing a meeting of the Belagavi district administration, elected representatives from the district and other senior officials at the Belagavi Suvarna Soudha on Friday, he said the state government will make higher budgetary allocations for strengthening the education and health sectors as both were very crucial.
The chief minister said the state government has decided to supply higher quantities of vaccines to Belagavi in accordance with the district’s population. The decision was taken in consultation with the state’s health and family welfare minister Dr K Sudhakar and department officials, he said.
The district administration must take all decisions pertaining to Covid control and containment measures in consultation with the district in-charge minister and elected representative as trying to resolve problems locally will save a lot of time and will be more effective. Any major problems could always be brought to his notice, he said.
In order to ensure that the Covid infected persons in the district were provided proper medical treatment quickly and also to help in the smoothening the administration, Yediyurappa said Belagavi regional commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas has been appointed as administrator of the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).
Approval for appointing the necessary staff for BIMS has also been given and steps for establishing a 20 kl capacity oxygen generation plant. Steps will also be taken to improve the infrastructure facilities in the district hospital, he said.
Dr Sudhakar, who accompanied the chief minister, said the state will be getting 58 lac doses of vaccines this month and there will not be any problems with vaccine availability after the vaccines are received.
The minister said the chief minister has sanctioned seven oxygen generating plants to the Belagavi district, which will be functional soon.
The district has also been allotted 144 doctors, including 54 experts, he said.
The health minister said Karnataka was conducting a higher number of tests in the country to check Covid positive cases. The state has conducted as many as 3 crore tests so far.
The chief minister also promised to ensure the sanction of the first instalment of compensation in the event of damages to houses during floods within 24 hours of receiving the necessary certificate and the balance amount will be released later.
Deputy chief minister and Belagavi district in-charge minister Govind M Karjol directed that ventilators in the taluk hospitals must be properly utilized.
Another deputy chief minister and transport minister Laxman Savadi said buses with oxygen beds are being made kept ready at a cost of Rs 8 lac to provide mobile treatment facilities in the event of a possible Covid third wave. The MPs and MLAs could also create such mobile bus facilities for the taluks under their constituency area development funds.
MLAs Satish Jarkiholi, Duryodhan Aihole, Anjali Nimbalkar, P Rajiv, Abhay Patil, Anil Benaka, Mahantesh Koujalgi, MLC Mahantesh Kamatagimath, MP Mangala Angad and former MP Prabhakar Kore spoke on various issues pertaining to their constituencies. Deputy commissioner M G Hiremath explained the situation in the district.
Home and law minister Basavaraj Bommai, women and child welfare minister, Shashikala Jolle and food minister, Umesh Katti were also present.
Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated the "Sarige Suraksha –Mobile ICU" buses.
The chief minister later called on the ailing RSS Pracharak Haribhau Vaje and inquired about his health.
