Bengaluru, Jun 7: Home and Law Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday ordered death audit in Haveri district following reports of deaths of several Covid infected persons and said a team of doctors and experts will visit the district by this week.

The minister after visiting Haveri district following reports of several deaths in Haveri district said he has already spoken to Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr K Sudhakar and also written to him on sending the special team of doctors and experts.

The Home Minister said the State Government has received several suggestions and even demands for ordering unlock with the number of Covid positive cases coming down and even the reduction in the positivity rate.

However, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will take a final decision after reviewing the situation in all districts, especially the caseload and mortality rates, on the next course of action after the present lockdown ends on June 14.

“The Chief Minster will review the situation in all districts and also Bengaluru on whether to order unlock after June 14 or go in for district-wise relaxations in the lockdown restrictions. The Chief Minister will discuss with ministers and senior officials before taking a final decision,’’ Bommai said.

The minister said it was too early to say whether the State will order unlock after June 14.

Bommai said the positivity rate is below 5% and the RTPCR tests have been increased. However, the mortality rate is more.

``In view of this situation, it is necessary to study the situation and analyse why the death rate is more and the cause for it. The special expert committee will examine all issues and suggest suitable measures to prevent such a situation in future,’’ he said.

The Home Minister said there has been widespread debate on the Chief Minister’s statement offering to submit his resignation if the party high command asks him to do so and that he will continue in office as long as he has the confidence of the party high command.

“We have already expressed our views and reposed our trust in Yediyurappa because he is the leader acceptable to all sections in the party. State BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel has already declared that Yediyurappa will continue. Even Union minister Prahlad Joshi has said Yediyurappa enjoys the complete trust of the party. It is final. So the subject is closed. There is no need for further discussion,’’ he added.
