Mangaluru, Jun 12: The second wave of coronavirus is still continuing its menace in the district of Dakshina Kannada. Positivity rate is increasing day-by-day.

Deputy commissioner Dr Rajendra K V has extended the lock down till June 20. But the public does not seem to be bothered.

Many are still venturing out for roaming in the pretext of buying essentials.

People do not maintain social distancing too. On Saturday June 12, people were seen standing and moving around closely without even wearing masks.

If the same situation continues, there are chances that lockdown will be extended after June 20 also.

    The lock downs can only help to flatten the curve and very little other than that. The only thing that can help is development of herd immunity by vaccination or infection. When the country, state or city goes into lock down it does not mean that people do not have to eat or stop living. Livelihoods are going and so are lives. The strategy is becoming counter productive, When people have a limited to buy their essentials they tend to rush during the available time. If X number of people have to buy the needs of their family, they have to whether the time available is Y or Z hours. This will lead to the rush and the neglect of distancing as well as other precautions. That the govts were totally unprepared for the second wave is very clear. Those who were patting themselves over their backs claiming that under Modi's leadership India has won over the virus are answerable for this. Not the people who have to earn their living as well as save their own lives and those of their families too. The pandemic spread to districts from the capital cities because the disease spreading there and the lack of facilities cause the exodus of people to their 'native place's and the virus was carried along! Now it is raging there.

    if we self disciplined and take precaution our selves then there is no need of police, no need of instruction from govt , each one is master for their own body and soul , if we neglect no point of blaming corona. Be with patience no patient during unlock .

    What can the government do to tackle this Covid-19 situation? The public is responsible for the increase in Covid cases. They are not following the protocol and they are least bothered. Police should take strict action against those going against the rules. If this continues, this lockdown will never end.

    @Kev, Mangalore - Am not against congress but do you think this is the right time to protest during pandemic while general public are restricted by cops & authorities for essential commodities ? Where is DC now ? why cant the police arrest or fine protesters during lockdown ???.??? Congress coming from a deep sleep to protest against rising fuel prices whilst allowing BJP to win elections what a hypocrisy ?

    Disease has come down following it s natural course as it happened last year 8n October. Last year lockdown helped in getting hospitals ready. This year it helped in preparing more vaccinrs. Let us now open up soon but restrict large gatherings till year end

    Very true....people are negligent and careless until heat touches their body. Till then bindaas roaming and sharing. Police should do rounds on interior roads of Mangaluru city and put fine on finding those who roam in bikes, chat in groups and even on those who participate in all types of gatherings...No responsibility in particular. Because of these, how long others can sit at home ? Make rules stricter like foreign countries...

    That's one way of looking at it. The other is that despite a partial lockdown if this is the situation, then imagine how much more bad it would be without a partial lockdown. Surely lockdowns can only be a temporary measure and possibly it is avoidable if people behaved responsibly.
