Udupi, Aug 30: The Kaup policemen raided an illegal slaughter house operating in Mallar village near Kaup in the district on Saturday August 29, and rescued 19 heads of cattle. Its operator, Hidayatullah (48), resident of New Manzil in Mallar Guddakeri, was arrested.

The policemen headed by Kaup police sub-inspector, Mohan Kottary, raided the place, based on reliable information that three cows had been butchered in Mallar. Ummer, a resident of Chandranagar, and Fayaz from Fakiranakatte, who were with Hidayatullah at the time of the raid, escaped from the scene. The policemen also recovered about 50 kgs of beef from the spot.

The local BJP unit had drawn the attention of the police towards the illegal operation of a slaughter house in Mallar since about a year, and had presented  memorandum to Kaup police on August 28, seeking action. The locals alleged that most of the cattle slaughtered at the place were stolen from various places at night, which were transported to the slaughter house through tempos and pick up vehicles at night.  When the accused was summoned by the policemen on Friday based on the memorandum, he reportedly executed a bond to the affect that he would not get involved in such activities henceforth.

A neighbourer, Mohammed Younus, said that the stolen cattle were allowed to graze in the agricultural fields not owned by Hidayatallah, and that because of the disposal of waste in the neighbourhood, the region stinks. Reports said that several Muslims residing near the slaughter house joined hands with the policemen in putting together the cattle, which were grazing at different places.

    Dear Vasant Raj,

I agree with you. But you know why it is still existing. Because in udupi they dont allow to slaughter so it needs to be brought from neighbouring places.. But since my childhood days i have seen when i go on vacation most of the orders are from Hindu brothers. They say we dont get fresh as we get from kaup or such places. If you people provide us facility we can do the same from udupibecause it is no more a secrect.. because i feel truth should be exposed as it benfits for every body.

This Kaapu Mallar area is very famous for the cow slaughtering. During 80's this business started as per my knowledge. One person from Kaapu area comes to Udupi city every week, gets the order and the same person will supply Beef after 2 days. During my last vacation I found this system still continues.
