Mangalore, Aug 30: State home minister, Dr V S Acharya, said that the campaign being undertaken by the BJP in the state, seeking the approval of the President for the cow slaughter bill moved by the government, is not a tactic to mount pressure on the state Governor, who refused to sign it when it was forwarded to him.

Acharya said, “The main aim of our action plan is to create awareness among the people about the issues involved, and to clarify the party’s stand on the bill,” he clarified. It may be recalled that when The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill - 2010 was tabled before the Governor for his assent, he had asked the same to be forwarded to the President, saying that he had serious reservations about certain provisions of the bill.

Speaking to reporters in the city on Sunday August 29, Acharya said that Abdul Nasser Madani, accused in Bangalore serial blasts, faces nine cases in the state. “Presently, he is in judicial custody. The policemen will seek police custody of Madani as and when they find the need to interrogate him,” he said.

Questioned about the expansion of the state ministry, he said that the Chief Minister will be taking a suitable decision on this issue at an opportune time.
