Udupi: Public on streets, weekend curfew to control Covid looks futile

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Jun 19: The movement of vehicles and people is not reduced though weekend curfew is in force in the city.

The police are strictly checking all the vehicles at entry points to the city. Only emergency services are allowed during this period.

Groceries shops and vegetable vendors are allowed to operate during this time. Factories are prohibited from functioning on weekends.

Most of the businesses are allowed to open during weekend curfew also. That is the reason the movement of people and vehicles is not reduced in the city. People are arriving into the city without any hassles as most of the shops are open.

This is because of confusion among the public. Many people bordering Dakshina Kannada arrived for the shopping in D.K. Authorities should make clear about the curfew. Some districts the weekend curfew is from friday evening to monday morning. Some district there is no curfew during the weekend. Besides some shops and establishments are open and many are not open. Law makers and adminstrator s should understand the ground realities. Police personnel and revenue officers are in difference of openion.

This weekend curfew definitely looks futile in every sense. Thanks to Daijiworld for the picture coverage of the curfew. People don't have to go outside to see what is actually happening. Vehicles, people, and you name it, are freely moving outside. Unless the protocols are strictly followed, this lockdown will never end.
