Mumbai, Jun 21: Mumbai's senior customs officer (retired) Yermal Rohit Hegde is reported to have been an unemployed officer with paddy cultivation in his hometown currently. Hegde, now a retired Assistant Commissioner of Customs (ACP) in Mumbai, works as a customs officer at the airport, cargo and ports.

Rohit Hegde, who has been serving as a customs officer for almost four decades, is a grandfather and was working in the fields before he left Mumbai. Katapady's Yenagudde Doddamane’s Chittaranjandas Hegde and Sanoor Guthu Thara C Hegde are a couple. He is the recipient of the Maharashtra Government's Chhatrapati Shivaji Award for sports achievement in the International Athletic Achievement International Awards.

The time has come for sowing and not to forget the old tradition of the sacred tree and to prepare him to pluck rice. "This time, I am reluctant to relive those days when the older generation was living a life of agricultural staple life," said he.

"I intend to re-cultivate the heritage of the farmers by re-cultivating to contribute to the country's prime minister Narendra Modi's agricultural projects. The government's new law on the land or the corona era has not been diminished. Therefore, I am trying to enrich paddy cultivation as a hobby and trend. All of us should hope to represent the country globally with agriculture in the near future."

Rohit Hegde, who has been quietly serving in social and religious services, is a rugged lover of rural sports in Tulunadu. He has served as the chairman of the Katapady Beedu Kambala Samiti for the past two and a half decades, the honorary chairperson of the Uchchila Public Ganesha Utsavam and the chairman of the Brahma Kalasam Samiti of the Yermalu Janardhana Temple.
