Mangaluru, Jun 24: A youth accidentally fell into the Arabian Sea at Rudrapade, Someshwar here on Wednesday June 23. He has been identified as Pavan Krishna Kotekar (29), son of Ganesh Prasanna, living near Someshwar municipal office.

Pavan, after completing his engineering degree at Mysuru, had come back to his native place. He had also completed his MBA in Mangaluru and was working in a private company. On account of Covid lockdown, he was working from home. He had made it a habit to visit Someshwar temple regularly every day. As usual, he visited the temple at 4.30 pm on Wednesday. He then scaled the Rudrapade on the seashore and then accidentally fell into the sea below.

Even though the lifeguards tried to save Pavan, they failed in their objective as the sea near the Rudrapade is very deep and the waves were high. On noticing that the body of the youth was floating in the sea a little while later, home guard volunteers Prasad Suvarna, fisherman Sagar, Mohan and Sujith of the Coastal Security Force, as well as the staff of Someshwar temple struggled with the waves and succeeded in retrieving the body and bringing it to the seashore.

Pavan was reportedly a talented youth and a good singer and guitarist. He is survived by parents and brother.

So sad a young life is gone lost in sea.Heartfelt sympathies to the family first and his friends having been loosing a friend.whatever all of you say he suicided ,I feel it was not that but only he jumped into the see to have a fresh touch of water, but unfortunately landed in deep water which he couldnt come out.If he had the wish to end his life, would have jumped first itself before his Yoga .One shouldnt make such comment without knowing.Since the see was so rough and even the life guards couldnt bring him out ,he too was may be caught in water.May his soul rest in Peace.

Suicide seems to have become a fashion in this era. The creator must be regretting his decision as to why he created humans and sent them onto this planet.

RIP and God be with your family.. Sadly the current situation is to be blamed and nkt the human! Everyone is quick to react and provide their own explanation for this. Remember just like cancer has no cause so does depression! Infact Depression is all the more serious cause cancer might show symtoms or changes to others but depression a lot of times would be know only once things have gone to the drains! The current situation is definitely such that people may be locking themselves within to save their life from Corona but the mental stress that is caused is not being looked into! Locking oneself within the 4 walls , no life, no meets with friends or outsiders or the loneliness is leading a lot of people into situations were life may look like it’s no worth. Not sure if the govt or medical fraternity can really help cause the situation is such that if ppl step out the scare of infection and if you don’t we get to read such news .. God save mankind and pray things get back to normal soon..

I don't understand why readers are eager to attribute reasons so quickly for a suicide without knowing anything about the person? It's not always about money. In this case, the report says he was working from home due lockdown. Work from home means he was employed. Why should we speculate the reasons why the young man decided to end his life!

This i think is the after effects of covid and modi wave. Also i feel sad for the hundreds of mall sales employees. They work for meagre 8000 to 10k barely enough to survive and now so many have lost their incomes and jobs. I appeal to the so called educated people of mangalore to please vote wisely in next election.

Rithesh, When u credit Modi for Good things done by someone else, then y u shouldnt blame for bad things such as suicides, unemployment etc. The Other day one cow gave birth to a calf and our MP was quick to thanks PM Modi. I was just guessing what was the role played by PM Modi on the birth of calf.
