Five Drown as Car Plunges into Canal near Bellary



Bellary, Sep 2 (PTI): Five members of a family, including two children, drowned when their car plunged into a canal near here in the wee hours today. 

The victims were returning to Bellary from the pilgrim town of Shirdi when the car fell into the Tungabhadra Right Bank Canal at Thoranagal, about 20 kms away from here.

While one of the passengers identified as Mallikarjun, managed to swim to safety, the fate of driver Krishna is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Bodies of Madhumala (20), Ambamma (50) Pushpavathi (28), Tribuvan (4) and Varuna, a four-month-old baby boy, were fished out by police.
