Bantwal: Refreshing development - Girl acquires knowledge, officiates Hindu religious ceremonies

Bantwal, Jun 28: Girls have repeatedly proved that they are in no way inferior to their male counterparts. Ladies have even undertaken travel by spacecraft and there are ladies who are counted amongst a handful of specialist doctors in the world. However, rarely one comes across women getting involved with officiating religious programmes in the capacity of celebrants as this has remained a male domain. However, a girl from here has voluntarily engaged herself in learning religious scriptures and mastering the art of officiating religious ceremonies.

Anagha, daughter of Kashekody Sooryanarayana Bhat, who is a member of Karnataka State Religious Council, has studied Vedas. She now takes part with her father as assistant in performing religious functions and other rituals.

Vedic scriptures are studied in depth at the residence of Sooryanarayana Bhat, a Purohit by profession, and residing at Kashekody near Dasakody in the taluk. Children also come to Bhat to study music and Bhagavad Gita. Therefore, the Vedic hymns she kept hearing in her home and Vedic chanting helped Anagha to get interested in this knowledge.

Anagha used to observe Vedic study from a young age. When she approached her father with a request to study Vedas, he happily agreed and began to train her in the art. Anagha's younger brother, Adityakrishna, has also shown interest in Vedic study and has been officiating religious programmes.

Anagha says that the environment in her house supported her interest to study Vedas. Therefore she did not find it difficult to get involved with the study. She says that she still has to study more Sanskrit and Vedas before she can become a full-fledged celebrant. By taking part in the officiating of Hindu religious procedures along with male Purohits, Anagha has parted from the beaten track and thereby opened up a new leaf in the history of officiating religious programmes in the region.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, is elated at the interest shown by Anagha in the study of Vedas. She has encouraged her to continue deeper in the study so as to become an inspiration for other girls in the school. Kashekody Sooryanarayana Bhat says that this has given further boost to the interests of Anagha.

Langoo maam, which calf you mean find cute? With four legs or two? Both are cute.let it aside.I find girls interest in Geethas or ceremonies to practice is quite ok :Why not ?It was actuelly previously men kept out girls either to enter the temples during certain days or complete out of Temples, because they considered they were not" clean".They had to stay out of house and temple.second girls were more for house hold considered.I am happy that her father allowed her for the job.Hope she will go till the end and is happy with it.

Great step in girls learning rituals and performing them. This must be allowed for all Hindu Girls, regardless of the sects. Its a common sense, that god is a pervading super consciousness, he/she/it is there in everything animate and inanimate, so where does the question of brahmana only can practice it??? For Hinduism and for sanatana dharma need to embrace lot of changes for it to becomes truly sanatana, humans as a whole cannot be divided based on some born in certain family and they follow certain rituals etc!!!! God does not see who practices rituals or he is pleased by brahmin people/priest. He will surely look at ones heart and mind how clean it is ? do they love other sects equally, other communities equally & have respect for nature/other beings-Animals/Plants/Water/Air/Fire/Space etc. In my opinion god loves all and everything equally, only those who are pure in heart can realise him as per paramahansa Yogananda/Ramana maharshi & Vivekananda. So all are equal, not just one sect that believes that they have birthright???

Not a big thing she is a Brahmin so she could do it. if it was a Hindu girl from any other community it would no way be possible in the first place as the teachings would not be imparted to her at all forget practicing them

@ Ram Rahim Robert, kodial, Please ask few of your Hindu friends as to what does Manusmruthi contain or for that matter just what is manusmruthi. I bet that even among Hindus nobody except a very very few know what is manusmruthi. It is not compulsory for Hindus to read religious texts like vedas or manusmruthi. It is not even compulsory to visit temples. Temples do not have the data of Hindus in their librarary. That is why Hinduism should be understood as a way of life and nothing else.

@ Ganeshaaaa, I totally agree that Hinduism should be understood & experienced as a way of life..., but now a days the battle is between REAL Hinduism which teaches - "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Sarva Dharma Samabhava, Ahimsa Paramo Dharma, Satya meva Jayathe, Athithi Devo Bhavanthu etc.," vs FEKU Hinduism - which teaches - Vengeance, revenge, hatred, intolarance, Ghar Wapsi (embacing christianity with scull cap on), embracing Mughal culture like lynching, cutting, demolishing etc., A food for thought...,

Did you know that no books in India ever spoke of a "Hindu" religion before the 18th century? If you know of any such books, please let people here know. The books/writings spoke of the Brahmin religions called Shaiva and Vaishnava. The use of the word to denote "Hindu" for the Brahmin religions is a recent phenomenon.

Although I'm firm believer in the fact that a woman's place is in the kitchen, I wholeheartedly approve of this because this is more wholesome and bebeficial than what other girls are doing on Snapchat, Insta and Onlyfans.

really sorry to know that this was possible only because the girl belongs to a brahmin family.. Manusmrithi is still followed in Hinduism..Jai Sanatana.. those who have emerged from the feet of Brahma will never be allowed inside the temples..becoming priest for them is just a dream..

Yes everyone can learn there is no restriction in Vedas. But as per Vedas, there are certain rules and regulations that needs to be followed, for example wakeup before sunrise, keeping you body clean, cleansing house after every meal using goumutra (But today people mock us for using goumutra and then same people question why cannot everyone be a priest), following saathvic diet and hundred more. For people telling I will eat whatever I want, wakeup anytime I want, why can't I perform pooja. No you cannot, just like other religion has certain rules and regulations in their respective scriptures we also do have those written in Vedas and to be called as Brahmin you need to follow those rituals. If you are born as a Brahmin and do not perform these rituals, then you are not a practicing Brahmin and you are well qualified to be called non Brahmin. For all those keyboard warriors out there, sitting and commenting that Brahmin are this/ that! --> try getting into action first, then if you have "will" to learn Vedas you will! else you will know that this is not right path for you.
