Udupi, Jun 28: Former MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has clarified through a press release that he was not involved in the transfer of 67 cents land under Kodvaoor gram government survey No 53/6 to Kalmat Mosque through Wakf Board when he was the MLA.

He stated that the allegations that he had transferred the land have gone viral on social media.

“When I was the MLA, thousands of applications were received concerning issues in the constituency. It is the responsibility of the elected representative to scrutinize them and take action. The MLA as elected representative should perform his responsibility without considering caste, religion and colour based discrimination. It is understood that the process of transfer of land to Kalmat mosque, was conducted in 2018. Elections were held in May that year and I lost elections and lost my position. It appears that those who have indulged in propaganda against me have forgotten this fact. It should be observed that all the government processes after 2018 were conducted through the respective government offices," he stated.

"I have followed the constitution and democratic values without indulging in politics of religion and caste during my term as MLA. I intend to bring to the notice of all that I have neither contacted any of the government officers nor did any of the officials approach me with regard to the land. I reiterate that I have not interfered in the process of land transfer and cancellation,” the Congress leader stated in a press release.
