Puttur, Jun 30: Learning from social websites and the media about the plight of a poor SSLC student, Deeksha Shetty, whose family is mired in problems, which have been further compounded by the collapse of her house, MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor and block education officer (BEO) Lokesh, along with several others visited Deeksha. Deeksha Shetty is a SSLC student of Karnataka Public School at Muthoor. Her mother who rolls beedis is the only support the family has as her father cannot work on account of leg pain.
The house of Deeksha in which she resided with parents and brother was already in shambles. On June 28, because of rain, the house had collapsed and efforts were made to stop further collapse with plastic sheets. Deeksha was worrying about how to study for her SSLC exams and her predicament was published by social websites and the media alike.
Puttur BEO Lokesh, said that if the student wants, she will be allowed to appear for the exam at Kombettu high school. He however stated that Deeksha said she would like to appear for the exam from her current school as she currently stays in the house of a relative at Kuppepadavu.
The BEO instructed the cluster resource person to admit Deeksha's brother, who has completed seventh standard, into Kombettu high school.
Several organizations including Puttur Bantara Sangha have promised the family help to reconstruct the collapsed house. Another organization has planned to temporarily shelter the family at Darbe and build a new house later. BJP Yuva Morcha district president, Sahaj Rai, led a team that handed over food kit.
