Kaup, Jul 1: A gang of inter-district vehicle thieves were arrested from Shivamogga and Maravanthe by a team of police personnel led by Kaup police circle inspector. Vehicles including a lorry that was stolen by breaking open the gate of a bitumen plant at Santhoor Alumbe, Mudarangady, were seized from their possession.
The arrested accused happen to be Ashraf (27) from Adve, Palimar village, Munna alias Majeer Sheikh (38) originally from Uttara Kannada district but currently residing near Padubidri Kanchinadka school, Manjunath alias Manju (31) from Shivamogga, and Arun (26) from Thirthahalli. A lorry, a Swift car, mobile phones and cash totally worth Rs 12.47 lac were confiscated from their possession.
These thieves had entered a bitumen plant belonging to Vaishali Constructions owned by Nagayya Shetty at Mudarangady Alumbe on the night of June 16 this year. A case in this respect had been filed in Padubidri police station.
The operation was conducted by Kaup in-charge police circle inspector Sampath Kumar and circle inspector, Prakash, with the involvement of Padubidri crime sub-inspector Jaya K, under the guidance of Udupi district superintendent of police N Vishnuvardhan, additional superintendent of police Kumar Chandra, and Karkala deputy superintendent of police H Vijaya Prasad.
