Mangaluru: Personnel of Bondel PHC - Exemplary corona warriors

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 10: Health workers are relentlessly working from the day the coronavirus pandemic made its entry into this world. They even go to the door of the public to offer health service. Many people mock them when they go to their house in order to request Covid tests. However, these warriors are working for a healthy society. There is one more example of this in the form of health workers attached to the Primary Health Care (PHC) centre of Bondel in the city.

The staff of PHC Bondel walk to areas like Maravoor, Kenjar and Moodushedde villages. As the Maravoor bridge collapsed recently, they go by foot to the houses of villagers living near it. If they take the roundabout route it will take more time and they will not be able to reach more people. So they prefer to walk rather than use vehicles. They park their vehicles at one end of the bridge and then go by walking and administer vaccines on people in Maravoor and Kenjar areas. They also carry out Covid tests according to the information provided by Dr Savitha, medical officer of PHC Bondel.

“More than 17,000 people reside under the limits of Bondel PHC in four villages. Covid task force is formed in all the four villages and people are alerted against the dreaded pandemic. In addition, everyday 100 people are tested for Covid with the help of gram panchayat members, development officer, village accountant and president. Now there are nine active cases under the limits of Bondel PHC. We are determined to make the limits of Bondel PHC free of corona in coming days,” said Dr Savitha.

It is really laudable that even during the modern times and availability of latest technology the staff of Bondel PHC are going by foot to the houses of villagers in order to serve them and keep them safe from the coronavirus.

I once again congratulate the Daijiworld team for reporting about the good work done by the Primary Health Centre of Bondel. Only from such reports people come to know about the good work done by some of our sincere Govt. officials. Otherwise, their work goes unnoticed and always people tend to be cynical. Even in normal times, the PHCs can perform a useful role in prevention and cure of diseases and people from middle classes should patronise their services and encourage the personnel working there.

Salute these Corona warriors. I was involved in some vaccine camps for people with disabilities where personnel from health centres were involved and i was also involved with some paid camps where private hospitals were involved. The efficiency, the empathy shown by health centres personnel were far higher than those from private hospitals. I salute them and hope they are duly rewarded for their hard work.
