Gusty wind, heavy rainfall rattles Udupi, 150-year-old tree comes down

Udupi, Jul 15: It has been raining heavily in the district since the last two days. Trees uprooted and fell on a temple and a house near Chittari Nandikeshwari temple at Matpadi on Wednesday July 14 in the heavy rain and wind, causing loss of several lacs of rupees.

A 150-year-old ‘Golimara’ (Ficus drupacea Thumb) came down on a temple. Another tree fell on the house belonging to Mahabala Nayari nearby damaging the roof and the bath room. The jackfruit tree belonging to Muddujathan that fell on the house caused approximately a loss of Rs six lac.

Gram panchayat officials, gram panchayat president and panchayat members visited the spots.

    Man made disasters/calamities ! Green house effect and It's in the beginning stage. Weather pattern is changing year by year. This year heat waves in most part of the world. Western America, Canada has broken records ever recorded. In the middle East too very hot. We feel like we are close to the furnace In the afternoon sun rays pricks the skin. People complain that it never used to be like that.

    Flavian Kuwait,this year climate is very extreem and everywhere changes in climate.Here in Germany we have this year very bad weather.should have been summer.but noone heard from it.Only rain and rain that too heavy .Heavy floods and houses trees are fallen very bad floods ,water has entered the houses floods have simply uprooted houses many poeple died due to this This was never we heard in the past.Roads are blocked in underground water has collected no cars can be taken out .Huge loss Many houses are simply floated in water.Looks like catastroph in Japan .Everwhere rivers are out of their level .

    Gutsy tree no more in gusty wind! I witnessed the falling down (due to strong winds) an old, massive tamarind tree. Unfortunately just a little below the surface where it had grown, there was a rock; hence the roots were not strong.
