London, Sep 15 (IANS): Singer George Michael has been sentenced to eight weeks in prison for driving under the influence of drugs.
The "Careless Whisper" singer admitted possessing cannabis when he was arrested in July after he crashed his car into a high street shop. But he has now been served the custodial sentence, reports contactmusic.com.
Out of the eight weeks of the sentence, Michael will spend four weeks in prison, and the remaining period under the supervision of the probation service.
The relief was provided as the judge took into account the fact that the singer had checked into a rehab clinic immediately after the incident and also his charity work. But the judge said he had no choice but to jail the pop star.
