Bangalore: DNA Reports Prove Halappa’s Guilt

Bangalore, Sep 15: It is gathered that a report received from Hyderbad-based DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics has confirmed that the semen stains found on the clothes of Chandravati, who has accused the former minister, Hartalu Halappa of raping her, indeed match with Halappa’s DNA.
The report, received by the officials of the criminal investigation department, has been handed over to the state home department, it is gathered. As Halappa has denied the allegation of rape levelled against him by Chandravati, the said report can prove fatal for his aspirations as a politician. If rape charge is proved, an accused can be sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum period of seven years, which can extend even to life imprisonment.
Chandravati and her husband, Venkatesh Murthy, had complained to the director general of police, besides filing a formal complaint with High Grounds police station in the city on May 2. The couple had said that Halappa had raped Chanravati after sending Murthy out on some pretext, when Halappa had stayed at the house of Murthy, his friend, in Shimoga on November 26, 2009. Halappa has been saying that the lodging of complaint against him was a plot hatched by his rivals to end his political career. Because of this incident, he was forced to resign from the ministry.
As courts including the Supreme Court have been holding DNA report as a conclusive piece of evidence, odds are stacked against Halappa now. When contacted by media men, Halappa denied knowledge of any such report, while Venkatesh Murthy said that his stand has been vindicated and that truth has prevailed.
