Shivamogga, Aug 5: A gang of miscreants who gate-crashed into a house in Chikkamaradi village in the taluk on Tuesday August 3 evening, took away about Rs 20 lac in cash and gold and silver items and ornaments worth around ten lac rupees. The robbery happened in the house of Jayappa Gowda (65). Gowda has been left injured as the robbers stabbed him with a knife.
Four men arrived in two motorbikes on Tuesday evening. All of them were wearing masks and helmets. They spoke in Kannada and Hindi. When they called Jayappa by name, he came out. They immediately stabbed him in the abdomen with a knife and entered the house. They collected keys of the almirah and took away Rs 20 lac in cash, 150 grams of gold ornaments and silver valuables.
Jayappa has two sons, one of whom is employed in Bengaluru. The other is working in Shivamogga. The police said that when the robber came, Jayappa, his wife, daughter-in-law and grandchildren were at home.
Injured Jayappa has been admitted into a private hospital. The police, aided by the sniffer dog, conducted scrutiny. A case has been registered in rural police station here and search for the robbers has been launched.
