Sullia, Sep 21: The government is thinking in terms of enacting a uniform religious endowments act all over the state to streamline the management of religious places, said muzrai minister, D Sudhakar.

He was addressing a press conference at Subrahmanya here on Monday September 20. He said that the proposed law will be based on the recommendations of a report prepared by Justice Rama Jois. “The ministry has received his report. Discussions about pros and cons of the recommendations contained therein are going on. We have also been examining petitions received from the general public,” he explained.

He said that once the new act comes into force, it would be possible to set up governing councils for all the temples in the state, and to achieve the progress of these temples in a systematic manner.

Questioned about the death of over a hundred beggars in the rehabilitation centre in Bangalore during the period he was the minister of social welfare department, Sudhakar asked the media men not to rake up issues that have already been given a burial.

“I am very happy at the new department allotted to me. I do not care which department is given to me, but my ultimate aim is to serve the people. If this department continues to be vested with me for long, I will work honestly to streamline the department and strengthen it,” he said.

About the expected cabinet reshuffle, he said that the Chief Minister has full powers to include or drop people of his choice, and that he would be happy if he is allowed to continue as a minister.

During his stay in Subrahmanya, Sudhakar inspected various development works being undertaken in Lord Subrahmanya temple. He also visited Subrahmanya Mutt and paid respects to Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji. Temple administrative officer, Dr Harish Kumar, executive officer, Ninganaih and former president of the governing council, T V Bhat among others accompanied him.
