Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 8: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 8 reported 438 new coronavirus cases and six deaths, while Udupi registered 129 new cases and no death. Dakshina Kannada's single-day tally was the highest among all districts in the state for the day.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 13,28,348 samples have been tested so far, out of which 12,25,164 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,03,184, out of which 3,415 are currently active.

As many as 311 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 98,303.

The district recorded 6 deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,466, out of which five are non-Covid deaths.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,01,18,517 as fine in 83,353 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 8,15,543 samples have been tested so far.

As many as 129 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 70,864, out of which 1,403 are currently active.

A total of 97 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 69,035.

Out of 129 new patients, 109 are in home isolation while 20 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 129, as many as 91 are symptomatic and 38 asymptomatic.

While Udupi taluk reported 74 of the 129 cases, Kundapur recorded 21, Karkala 32, and two from outside the district.

Coronavirus has claimed 426 lives in the district so far. No death was reported on Sunday.

So far, 5,37,402 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 1,93,736 have received the second dose.

A total of 50 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, out of which, 8 are currently active.

    This is nothing but effect of so-called lockdown and Curfew. Unless people realise the future danger the cases will not come down/reduced.
